- Prime the walls.
Fill in any holes in your walls, then sand them flat to finish preparing them. Prime the walls with acrylic primer (or wallpaper sizing) and wait for it to dry.
- Scale the wall covering
Add six additional inches to the wall’s height to allow for trimming. Use a utility knife to trim a few pieces of the wall covering after rolling it out on your work surface.
- Draw a line to hang the first piece and mark it.
Label a plumb Unbook the wall covering, mark a plumb line on the wall, and then start installing it. With the heels of your hands, slide the wall covering onto the wall until the edge aligns with the plumb line.
If you do not intend to add crown molding, apply the wall covering so that it extends an additional three inches past the top edge of the wall. We will add crown molding later.
- Make the Surface Smooth and Continue
If you have embossed paper, use a soft-bristle wallpaper brush to smooth it out. If you have standard wallpaper, use a straightedge.
- Trim the Corners
Use a straightedge and utility knife to trim any extra paper at the corner before applying the wall covering there. If the number of pieces you removed exceeds 2, “wide, start the following wall with it. Draw a second plumb line 1/4 from the corner “Hang the strip at a distance that is less than its width. Press the edge into the corner, and use the straightedge and utility knife to trim the paper.
